Dr. Lowell Donnelley Biography

Our Pastor

Dr. Lowell Donnelley was born and raised in Vandalia, Illinois. He received his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri; a Master of Religious Education and Doctoral Study from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; and Doctor of Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He has served as a minister in Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Canada, Hawaii, and Illinois. He began his pastorate at the First Baptist Church of Altamont in August of 2003. Previously, he worked 11 years as a student services administrator at the University of Illinois and Oklahoma State University. He served four years in the United States Air Force, including one year in Viet Nam.

Dr. Mirta Donnelley is a native of Brazil. She received her Bachelor of Science in Piano Performance degree from the University of Brazil in Santa Maria and Master of Arts in Music Education degree and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction in Music degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has several years of experience in Music Ministry in German Baptist churches in Brazil and Southern Baptist churches in the United States. She has taught music in private and public schools. She currently teaches private piano lessons in Altamont and nearby Effingham. The Donnelley’s have two children, Lucas and Megan.
